Been listening to SA quite a bit, but I only have 3 of their cd's. Does anyone have:

After Flood: Live at Grand Forks Prom June 28 1997

i didn't know this was out there but it's pretty cool. they do some pretty cool covers on it. tracks of my tears, sexual healing, rhinestone cowboy, etc... good story behond the cd as well.

"Wow, I can't believe this got released! I was at the hanger for the Prom that night... the only High School dance I ever attended. I can tell you first hand that the atmosphere in the town at the time was pretty depressing. Most everyone I knew had lost pretty much everything they owned; houses, vehicles and almost everything else was fair game for the raging Red River that spring.

Our graduating High School class had spent the weeks leading up to the eventual evacuation sandbagging the dikes around the river, trying (in vain it turned out) to keep the flooding river out of our homes and lives.

Many families didn't realize the severity of the situation until the National Guardsmen came to our doors and told us to "pack for about 3 days, you need to be gone in 2 hours". That 3 days turned into upwards of 2 months for many of us. Friends were seperated with no way to get back in touch with one another and not knowing who was going to make it back for graduation... or even if we were going to have one.

When they announced that we would be still having a graduation and would even still hold the Prom, we were ecstatic. It was a much needed break from all the rebuilding that was going on. Even more exciting; somehow, someway, someone had managed to get Soul Asylum to agree to play our Prom!

When Soul Asylum took the stage, the energy in the hanger was palpable... you could almost taste excitement in the air. They didn't just *play* for us though, they got up there and poured their hearts into making the best of a bad situation for us and for that, I will be forever grateful. It was a stellar show and made for some pretty interesting stories when we started returning tuxedo's with tore-off sleeves and jackets that got ripped while crowd surfing.

Thanks again gentleman for giving yourselves to a town that needed a little pick me up, it was a much needed boost and it's not something that we'll soon forget!"

Bill, can I get a copy of Candy...., and After Flood from ya? Did you need any of the 3 I have?
I think Carl's gonna send me the other 2.
Soul Asylum has a (well earned) reputation for their live show, so I bet that After Flood show is great. I saw them on the GDU tour, and they just killed live!

I've got Grave Dancers Union and Dave Pirners solo album (which is awesome btw) I heard some of their pre GDU stuff and wasn't that impressed... but i'd like to give it a try again. Let your dim light shine is awesome too. really wat that Misery inc. is one of my favourite SA songs.

Well, I was wondering if Pirner had done some solo or not, since the last SA album was in '98, and I hadn't heard from them since, but I bet it's pretty good.
The pre-GDU stuff is really kind of hit and miss. There are some absolutely awesome tracks on the 3 that I have, particularly on "...and the Horse they rode in on" and "Hang Time". There are about 4 great ones on each, then the rest is just ok. I think it might be because back then they were really cranking them out. 3 albums in '86 alone, and 2 more in '88. But when they are good, they are really good, which is kinda why I wanted to hear some of that old stuff, to see what kind of gems I could find.

I goofed up Dan, all I have is "Dim". But I'll make it up to you by sending you the actual CD. It's just collecting dust here as, IMO, after "Horse They Rode In On" they proceeded to turn into one of the worst bands in music history. They should have stayed broken up, but the money from Majors made them dcecide to reform for the abomination that followed, but the drummer was smart and stayed out of it. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

With the exception of Hang Time and ...And The Horse They Rode In On, all my Soul Asylum stuff is on vinyl.
They were fantastic live, that's a fact. I saw them on the Hang Time tour and the Horse tour and they tore it up both times. Great memories there...the Metro felt like it was 150 degrees!

That's how the Metro usually felt once you got more than 20 people in there though! LOL!!! Especially back then. I saw Pussycat there back on the "Wake Me" tour and that was the worst I have ever seen in that joint. People were being pulled out from heat all over the place, Taime had to stop the show at times to pull people up from the front of the stage who were being crushed passing out from the heat.

Man, I love that club!!!
